In a recent development, the Private Telecommunications and Communications Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PTECSSAN) has issued a stark warning, declaring their intent to initiate an indefinite strike action commencing on April 4th.

This announcement was conveyed through a statement signed by the General Secretary of PTECSSAN, Mr. Okonu Abdullahi, and made public on Tuesday.

Abdullahi articulated that the decision to embark on strike action stems from what the union perceives as unresolved issues between them and subcontractors associated with Huawei Technologies Nigeria Ltd.

Notably, the subcontractors mentioned in conjunction with Huawei encompass Reime Group, All Streamenergy Solutions Ltd., Uppercrest Ltd., Tyllium Nigeria Ltd., and Specific Tools and Techniques Ltd.

The crux of the matter lies in the alleged failure to address pressing concerns, prompting the union to take a stand. Specifically, PTECSSAN is advocating for the immediate recognition of employees’ fundamental rights to freely associate with the union. Additionally, they demand the prompt remittance of membership dues to the union’s account and the regularization of employment status for union members engaged in Huawei projects.

Furthermore, PTECSSAN underscores the importance of their involvement in negotiating collective bargaining agreements, aiming to secure favorable terms for their members’ welfare.

In light of these unresolved grievances, the leadership of PTECSSAN has instructed its members to commence an indefinite strike action, effective April 4th.

While acknowledging the potential inconvenience this may pose to the general populace, Abdullahi implored Nigerians to bear with them during this period of industrial action.

This development underscores the urgency for dialogue and resolution between the involved parties to avert the disruptive consequences of a prolonged strike on both the telecommunications sector and the wider society.
