Former Labour Party Presidential Candidate Peter Obi Donates N75m to Immaculate Heart of Mary Specialist Hospital

In a philanthropic gesture, Mr. Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, has contributed N75 million to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Specialist Hospital in Nkpor, Anambra State.

Presenting the cheques to the hospital’s management on Thursday at its premises, Obi explained that the funds were allocated to address critical needs within the hospital and support various health interventions. The donation comprises $50,000, personally raised by Obi through his friend, renowned New York-based paediatrician Dr. Philip Ozuah, and an additional personal contribution of N15 million.

During the presentation, the former governor of Anambra State emphasized the importance of supporting institutions like the Immaculate Heart Sisters’ hospital, which operate without government subvention. He commended their dedication to treating individuals, including the less privileged, who may be unable to afford medical expenses.

Obi stated, “Institutions like the one run by the Immaculate Heart Sisters are in difficulty and require support because they don’t receive government subvention. They treat people, including the poor, who are unable to pay, so individuals like me should come to their aid and support them to do more.”

Expressing gratitude for the positive intervention, Obi acknowledged the support of Dr. Philip Ozuah and pledged to continue advocating for assistance to well-managed institutions like the Immaculate Heart of Mary Specialist Hospital.

Rev. Mother Maureen Akabogu, the Proprietor of the Immaculate Heart Hospital, extended appreciation to Peter Obi for his generous donation and consistent support for the hospital since its inception. The hospital, managed by the Immaculate Heart Sisters, has been recognized for its effective management of funds in critical areas of developmental health, education, and poverty alleviation.
